I caved into Polyvore.

non-sequiturs

- I really would like someone to parody Jermih's "Birthday Sex" song and call it, "Birthday Checks." (Click here for reference of what terribly catchy song is being stuck in my head while driving every so often.)
- I've recently begun learning how to play tennis the proper way from my brother. It's evident in how my wrist hurts.
- Because I've recently learned how to use a chair in my cardio kickboxing workout, I can't not think of what a lap dance lesson might be like if they exactly existed. (As part of a tacky Vegas bachelorette party package?)
- Lee's Sandwiches' "Iced Americana Latte" tastes EXACTLY like my beloved Korean iced latte. And what do Korean iced lattes taste like? Like lattes but slightly sweeter.
- Taking another trip to the Yay Area next week. I don't have much planned except for hanging out with family.
- I couldn't watch Fox's "More to Love" (The Bachelor, but with normal, plus sized women.) without wanting to cry. At the same time, I was slightly mad that they picked a plus sized man as the bachelor -- so much for love being for everyone 'regardless' of size.

I am starving. Later!

Disco Buddha!

Despite being so painfully Catholic it hurts, there is one aspect of living that Catholicism has managed to evade: The interior of my house. You see, my mom has this penchant for religious figures and icons in decorative format. Buddha statues, check. Hindu god figurines, check. Santo Nino dolls, check. Our newest addition is what I like to call "Disco Buddha." It is exactly everything a Disco Buddha would and should aspire to be in a Catholic household: Entertaining. Disco Buddha was a random Little Saigon find, and mom is most proud of the fact that she was able to bargain down from $40 USD to $30 USD. This kind of leads me to think... are there people out there just like my mom? Do non-Christians keep Disco Jesus around at home? Whatever the case may be, I think it's great how popculture canvasses everything in life and I don't think it's disrespectful at all. Here's Disco Buddha in action:

A break, finally.

Quick life update: Still alive.
Recently freed from academia for the time being. More blogposts in the coming week are in order. Tomorrow? Wedding in San Diego. Obviously not mine. The person getting married is someone my age. Upon hearing the wedding announcement awhile back, I laughed to myself and thought, "Getting married at this age? That is plain silly. What's next, babies having babies?" And then I caught myself and realized that everything pertaining to adulthood and becoming an adult is pretty legit at my age.

And finally, this song has been my jam for awhile:

Jeux d'enfants

Jeux d'enfants/Love Me If You Dare (2003)

I'm in the middle of watching this amazing (so-far) non-cheesy-probably-because-it's-French romantic comedy. It features Marion Cottillard, last year's Academy Award winner for best actress. It's also directed by the same guy that directed the terrible English version of Korea's "My Sassy Girl." Oddly enough, years ago a bunch of Korean ESL students recommended it to me but I just never got around to it -- and then I came across the entire movie...on Youtube. So far, it doesn't suck like the English version of My Sassy Girl.

Jeux d'Enfants (2003) trailer:

If you happen to like the trailer, you can join me in partially watching it on Youtube here. (I'll get around to finish watching it this weekend.)

Your insides are showing.

Just in case there is a shortage of ideas on how to spend $29,000 USD, this Delfina Delettrez cuff/ring love child would be a good one and you can send it to yours truly. I'd actually like to see an arm cuff, from the shoulder bone to the phalanges.

Funny things I've said that made people laugh

I'm not gonna lie.
I think I'm funny. I'm the kind of person who will randomly reminisce (and possibly laugh to hysterically to myself in the most serene of moments) over funny things I've said that made people laugh. The most recent thing I've said that elicited more than the expected chortle was when I was in the lab measuring grams of a salicylic acid to make quick n' dirty aspirin. For those unaware of what salicylic acid looks like, I'll tell you.

Coke. And not the legal, drinkable kind.

The aspirin recipe called for exactly 2.00 grams. Producing exact measurements is typically hard and time consuming. I was particularly lucky that day. Just one swift dollop of acid from the bottle to the machine produced the exact measurement of 2.00 grams. Because this NEVER happens, I had to say something (to myself) to express my luck and gratitude to the exact measurement gods:

"Booyaahhhh! 2.00 grams exactly...and WHAT? I'm makin' measurements like I was a member of a Columbian cartel."

Obviously, if you didn't think that was funny, it's okay. I understand.

The next funny thing I said that made people laugh involves a night where I was slightly inebriated. I don't remember much of that night except for somehow, I got into a conversation about test tube babies and how it's possibly more enjoyable for men to donate sperm to sperm banks that it is for females to donate eggs to egg banks. I said, "It's probably more enjoyable for men to donate because it's not like a woman can donate by masturbating her eggs out. They have to extract it from her." To give you a glimpse into *how exciting my daily life is, let's just say I'll be laughing quietly to myself over this for weeks.

* Not very exciting.

Independence Day: The Line Dance Tribute

On days that don't end in the word 'day,' my dad is usually cranky.
If he's not cranky, he's an animated chatter box, both intelligent and socially awkward. He doesn't cook (well) and he's no handyman. My most painful elementary school memories are of him failing to style my hair into the popular French braid adorned by many a private Catholic school girl. Instead, he would wake up earlier than usual just to make his version of the French braid: knots in my hair with red rubber bands and bobby pins. (Let's face it, I was high a maintenance Kindergartner without a clue about French braids, despite my need to be constantly in style.)

In high school, every basketball game he attended turned into a who-could-embarrassingly-cheer-at-your-child-the-loudest competition. While he still remains the quintessentially embarrassing parent, I am nothing but proud to call him my father. Especially because the man can dance.

Line dance, that is:

Now this is more my budget, Chanel. Thanks for acknowledging the recession and poor people with big dreams. BRB Sharpie-ing the Chanel logo onto a black pair of oversized shades.

PS. Stay tuned for a more substantial post.

You've got the love

Candi Staton - You've Got The Love (1986):

Of course Florence and the Machine's cover is just as amazing:
